Set in 1937 St. Louis, Missouri, The Glass Menagerie follows the recollections of Tom, a warehouse worker who dreams of becoming a writer, as he narrates his family’s struggles to come to terms with reality. Laura, Tom’s sister, is almost as delicate as her prized collection of glass figurines that she polishes on a daily basis. Amanda, Tom’s mother, reminisces constantly of her Southern youth and resents both her daughter’s shyness and her son’s escapist tendencies. When Tom brings a handsome stranger home to meet Laura, tensions in the home come to a hilt, and ultimately all three family members must decide how to confront their own desires and limitations. In an exploration of memories, duty, weakness, and love, the All Saints Drama Guild brings Tennessee Williams’ stark drama to life.
